What are Live Bloodworms?

Live Bloodworms are packs of small bloodworms to be used as live fish food. Bloodworms are non-biting midge fly larvae that are a favourite food of many fish typically kept in coldwater and tropical aquariums. While many fish keepers use frozen bloodworms as food, live bloodworms are more attractive to freshwater fish through their movement, and more likely to encourage feeding.

Are Bloodworms good for fish?

Bloodworms are a particularly good aquarium food as they have a lot of protein and iron. They are ideal as part of a balanced diet when complemented by nutritious dried food. Like Brine shrimp, live bloodworms will provide a nutritious meal that improves colouration in aquatic animals and helps bring fish into breeding condition.

Which fish eat Bloodworms?

Most coldwater and tropical fish will eat Bloodworms as well as many other forms of aquatic life, such as amphibians. Bettas, Guppies, discus, Goldfish and loaches will all commonly eat bloodworms in many forms, but will particularly enjoy live bloodworms as a treat. Live bloodworms are also good for difficult-to-feed wild-caught fish, which may not recognise or respond to dry foods.

How do I store Bloodworms?

Our own bloodworms will arrive fresh and ready to be served. While bloodworms eat very little and have few needs, they are not expected to live for long in an aquarium and will likely be eaten immediately. If you do not need to serve any of the live bloodworm packs immediately, they can be kept in a cool, dark place (such as a fridge or garage) where they will last for a couple of days.
