Live Copepods are 100ml packs of copepods that can be used as live natural food in coldwater, tropical and marine aquariums. They are a particularly small live food with a high protein content, which makes them suitable for feeding many small fish species, fish fry and difficult to feed marine fish species like mandarins, dragonettes and pipefish. The live copepods are also quite easy to store and care for.
Are live Copepods good for fish?
Copepods are a fantastic fish food as they contain lots of protein and nutrients that growing fish require. However, if you are giving copepods as fry food you will need to pair it with a nutritional dry food as the invertebrates will have most but not all of the vitamins your fry need.
Which fish eat Copepods?
Every small fish will eat copepods from tetras and danios to guppies and rasboras. Copepods come into their own however with difficult-to-feed species and fish that will only eat small live food like marine mandarins and pipefish. Mandarins should ideally be fed at least one bag of copepods per day, so that they always have access to live food to hunt down on prey on. Weight loss and starvation is the biggest killer of mandarins, dragonettes and pipefish, but a regular supply of live copepods will seriously aid their survival in aquariums.
How do I store Copepods?
The copepods come in a pack that can easily be torn open and added to your aquarium. However, if you want to save some of the copepods you can keep them in a dark and cold area, such as a fridge or a garage, where they will survive for a few days.
