Nitrico Bacterial Goop Pouch
A ready-to-use pouch containing live Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter bacteria to start your aquarium and filter.
For example, a "For 50L" pouch provides enough bacteria to efficiently process waste in a tank up to 50 liters, assuming sensible stocking. If you plan a higher stocking density for a given tank, consider a larger pouch than you think you need.
When your filter bacteria arrive, the pouch will hold trillions of live nitrifying Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter cells. To ensure they establish well, add the bacteria to the tank right after delivery and introduce fish at the same time or within about 48 hours if possible.
Our bacteria are grown in a modern bacterial digester. They have not been exposed to fish, so there’s no risk of disease transfer from moving media between filters. For best results, keep your aquarium’s pH above 6.5 and your KH (carbonate hardness) at least 4 dKH to help the bacteria thrive.
The pouch will include clear, simple instructions.
Most user difficulties arise when water is extremely soft with very low KH, or when used with a new soil or other active substrates. Active substrates (like soil) can release ammonia for weeks and can also lower KH. All nitrifying bacteria need KH to survive. Without adequate KH, your cycle or the goop may fail.
If you’re using a new active substrate, monitor your water for ammonia and KH depletion before using any Nitrico product. Only when your water is stable should you use our bacterial products.
We do not recommend ever adding more than a double dose to any aquarium, as bacterial die-off may cause a nitrite spike. If you think you need a higher dose, please contact us.
The size of goop pouch we recommend for a tank is sufficient to break down the equivalent of 2 ppm waste ammonia in 24 hours at 26°C. Rarely is it necessary to increase this dose unless the tank is heavily stocked or there is an additional ammonia source present. If you add too much goop, you may see a nitrite spike due to bacterial die-off. This does not mean that most of the bacteria are dead; it means they are adjusting to the correct levels for your situation. A nitrite spike can usually be rectified quickly with a water change using dechlorinated water. Once the die-off concludes, the water chemistry should stabilise very quickly.
Nitrico goop cannot compensate for an inadequate filter system or lack of flow in your tank.
